The Team

Professor of Environment & Development, University of Sussex
Originally trained as an ecologist and environmental scientist, Fiona is transdiciplinary ‘systems’ researcher - concerned with transformative sustainability science. Fiona is involved with empirical place based research, alongside ‘research on research’ to explore transformative landscapes, transformative knowledge systems and associated science, technology and innovation policy.

Professor of Machine Learning, University of Sussex
Novi is a Professor of Machine Learning at the University of Sussex. Prior to joining Sussex in 2014, he was a Newton International Fellow of the Royal Society at Department of Engineering of University of Cambridge, a Junior Member of the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences, and a Junior Fellow of the Wolfson College. He received a PhD in Machine Learning from the Australian National University (ANU), Canberra, Australia in 2012.

Research Professor (Informatics)
Jeremy completed a DPhil in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Sussex, before going on to enjoy a 20-year business career as a consultant, a venture capitalist, and a private equity partner. He returned to the academic world in 2009. Since then, he has co-founded two AI research laboratories at the University of Sussex, the Centre for Analysis of Social Media at the think-tank Demos, and a AI-focused technology firm, CASM Technology LLP.

Dr Jonathan Dolley
Researcher
Jonathan is a former Marie Sklodowska-Curie Global Fellow at the University of Sussex and a Fellow of the Sussex Sustainability Research Programme (SSRP). Between 2021-2024 he carried out research about Hansalim and the Life Movement in South Korea, funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 program. His current research focus is on the role of solidarity-based food systems in sustainability transformations.
